At the end of the story, a glimpse of hope is planted in the reader as the main character branches out and develops a friendship with a neighbor. Eve wanted to write a story about how children feel living through a riot. This story was written right after the Los Angelos riots in 1994. Knowing the strengths, weaknesses, and styles of different illustrators has allowed Eve to personalize her books with illustrators who could make pictures fit the feelings and emotions of her stories.Īlthough Eve has won many awards and her books are well-known, the book that is probably most famous is Smoky Night. She actually does not collaborate with her illustrators and often, she does not meet the illustrator of her book until the book is finished (Scholastic Inc., 2012).

Now that people are familiar with her name and works, she can ask for almost any illustrator she wants (Scholastic Inc., 2012). When Eve first started writing and publishing, she did not have a choice as to who her illustrator or publisher would be (Scholastic Inc., 2012). She does not have a favorite illustrator or publisher, because they have different styles which fit different books (Scholastic Inc., 2012). She is shocked that her love has brought her such attention (Cary, 1997).Įve Bunting has many books published and illustrated. Eve herself is a humble person and feels she is just doing what she loves. With over 200 books published, her works are well-read and known. Overall, Eve Bunting is a successful writer.
